چکیده

A high quality polygonal model of the temporal bone and the structures related to the middle and inner ear is presented. The segmentation of the spiral CT–data and the reconstruction was performed in an iterative process taking several hours to complete. In comparison to this, the power of direct volume rendering is presented which produces meaningful images of the same data in a very short time by interactively adjusting pre–defined color look–up tables. Additionally, using hardware assisted registration, the fusion of CT– and MR–data gives an even more comprehensive representation of the whole situation. Examples demonstrate the direct clinical application and show the value for the planning of neurosurgery.

Effect of replacing cochlea contour with inner ear contour on cochlea dose-volume calculations in conventional 2 dimensional and conformal 3 dimensional radiotherapy of brain

Introduction: Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) is one of the possible complications of radiotherapy treatment of brain tumors. The auditory system of patients with brain tumors often is placed inside of radiation field and receives a significant amount of radiation dose resulting in hearing loss. The purpose of this study was to compare contouring and delivery dose to cochlea...

Virtual labyrinthoscopy: visualization of the inner ear with interactive direct volume rendering.

Computed tomography (CT) is the modality of choice for detailed imaging of the bony labyrinth. Usually, information about the complex three-dimensional anatomic structures of the inner ear is presented as two-dimensional section images. Interactive direct volume rendering is a powerful method for visualization of the labyrinth. Unlike other visualization methods, direct volume rendering enables...

Segmentation Assisted Object Distinction for Direct Volume Rendering

Ray Casting is a direct volume rendering technique for visualizing 3D arrays of sampled data. It has vital applications in medical and biological imaging. Nevertheless, it is inherently open to cluttered classification results. It suffers from overlapping transfer function values and lacks a sufficiently powerful voxel parsing mechanism for object distinction. In this work, we are proposing an ...

Interactive and Intuitive Visualization of Small and Complex Vascular Structures in MR and CT

The spatial understanding of vascular information obtained with CT and MR is tremendously assisted by direct volume rendering since it provides semi-transparent views of the entire data giving insight to hidden structures. Ensuring a convenient diagnosis of complex vessel topol-ogy, we propose an approach based on 3D texture mapping which ensures interactive frame rates. The method proved to be...
